door needs to be cut out/beveled, and the rear beginnings of the tire well arent perfectly shaped, or bevel’d yet. jsut a quick update. car body should be finished by later tomorrow, or the day after, depending on how much enthusiasm i have.

—END UPDATE July22—
Some of you guys may remember this car from the latest James Bond film, Die Another Day. It was the gray/silver car in the icey car chase.

After so pissing and moaning in #blenderchat about DESPERATLY wanting the ability to weight edges in subsurf’d meshs…i decided to do without, and use blender to model the car.

Here is what I have gotten after about 2 hours of work, and 4 hours of pissing and moaning…

Hope the pic shows, I forgot what someone said I needed to have in the url for it to be displayed when hotlinked to. :frowning:

Comments and crits please, but I know that there are some bumps that need work. They’re all too small to notice from the screenshot, so if you think you see a bump, its probably part of the car design…look for pix of the car with google if you wish. The wheel wells are way too big at the moment, as I am still working to get a good circlar wheel well. It’s not hard, I just havn’t gotten to them yet. Lastly the part of the hood that connected to the windshield frame looks like crap right now…it will be changed accordingly.

The car isn’t textured yet, but will be when it is closer to finishing. it will be rendered in yafray, and i may animate some sort of car chase, using my Elise S2 car model…but I’m thinking that for a car chase animation, I would prefer a more sporty car than this Aston Martin.

Well I am finally done blabbering on and on…

Thanks,

Farrell Farahbod

Cool start… Let’s show us more

Great start. Excellent job on the seams as well for the hood, etc.

Keep going. This will be great.

It’s a very good start  I can see this being a great model when finished. Keep up the good work.

mmh good start! That’s a great car, i wanted to model this car few months ago, but i’m a laZyman! arf

keep work! it will kick ass!

ps: did you get any blueprints about this car?

looks great. cant wait to see the finished model.

If you ever get it finished, use my Speckle plugin to make it do the whole vanishing act.

You’d use the plugin to transition from a scene without the car to an identical scene with the car, and would turn “shimmer” on.

see update #1 at top of post (July22)

Great progress.

Where did you get the prints for this BTW?

Well i couldnt find any blueprints online for it, so i jsut searched for about an hour and a half, saving all pictures i found of the car. i was fairly lucky in that i found a PERFECT or damn near perfect top view (no appearent perspecitve-distortion) and some good side views, one in particular. the front and back pictures tho were either not straight-on, or they were straight-on, but up close, so somewhat severe perspective distortion made them good only as reference pictures, which is why u see a front-pic in my right UV picture window.

after finding roughtly 80 pictures, i sorted them into folders by angle or type (side, front, angled, close ups, interior, etc) and then with the gimp i made 1600x1200 images, and put four photos into that 1600x1200 image. after making 12 of those 1600x1200 pictures, i printed them for easy access, and then hole-punched the pages, and put them into my “Reference Photography” binder…where i store all my reference pictures…even ones from older projects, like my Elise S2 car project.

to print my pictures i uploaded them to my reblended.com site, becuase i had to use my stepfathers printer, as my (much better) printer is being repaired. i left the pictures online, so fell free to browse threw them. the pictures are quite big in size, as they’re png’s, at 1600x1200. so the typical png is 1-2MB. please dont use up too much bandwidth by downloading the pictures several times… alll 16 pages is like 25MB and i want to be kind to my host. heres the url:

http://reblended.com/www/upgrdman/ref_pix/

the photos contained in those png’s are NOT mine, so please dont go off and vioilate the american copyright laws. i am not even sure if i am allowed to post the photos online, but i am assuming it is ok under something like the Fair Use doctrine/law…
