Hello Everyone!
I am needing some assistance regarding my car modeling project. Most everything looks fine except for when I add a subsurface modifier or turn the shading to smooth, it gets a weird look with the shading like this…
Take in mind that I’m a newbie myself but I get rid of that by using edge crease (shift + e) or deploying more edges close to the border of faces.
Actually, if you want some feedback you should avoid big faces with more than 4 edges as they bug easily nearby topology. You should cut that big face close to the rear wheel. You can do it just fine with the knife tool.
Well I would also suggest going into edit mode, pressing “a” to select everything and then pressing “Ctrl n”
I believe your problem is that the normals are facing opposite directions. Go into edit mods. Find the toolbar on the left (t shortcut while cursor in the 3d view screen if it’s hiding). Find and press the recalculate button.
I also noticed you had some ngons (polygons bigger then quads). You may want to get rid of them.
I would suggest pressing Ctrl R on the side skirt and then pressing 2, then enter so that you can then join those to vertices to the ones on the wheel area
Thanks for the help everyone! I will make those changes as soon I get the opportunity and let you know how it goes.
Hello, people! It has been a long time sense I have worked on this (college and stuff). However, I finally had the time to fiddle on this project and nothing seemed to help. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have a sketchfab attached as well. https://sketchfab.com/show/6f1f88e5ddce418b9c841783c2718f6c
