Hello
I’m trying to create a realistic shader for carbon fiber for a small racing car. The final shot will have multiple close-ups of the carbon/parts itself so it’s very important that the carbon reacts naturally.
This is pretty challenging due to the way the carbon reacts to light. The fibers react as ‘hairs’ so they would be best shaded with a anisotropic shader (tangent shaded). The problem is to get the tangent shading to point to the right direction and not so much finding a good diffuse texture for the carbon.
So I’ve done some digging around and I’ve seen multiple ways to do it in other software but they all use an anisotropic map, which for some reason you can’t change in blender, or at least not to my knowledge. I think in blender just uses a simple gradient for it.
For more info on the carbon fiber itself see this link ( ht tp://xsi.jankin. com/anisotropic_patterns/ <-remove the spaces) and scroll down to the bottom. It has a small clip of how I want my base layer for the carbon to look like.
So does anyone know a way to maybe mimic this effect with nodes or other methods?
Any form of help would be greatly appreciated.
I have looked at that particular material and although it’s somewhat convincing in stills it just doesn’t cut it. Especially when you animate and change some light sources around. I’m not saying it’s a bad material, quite contrary. It just doesn’t look in motion. Especially when you have seen carbon fiber in person.
Thanks for the help though.
can you load up a pic for the texture you want !

Here’s a video of the carbon:

And here’s a close up:

The problem is that the carbon is weaved. So I’ll need some sort of anisotropic texture to mimic the different thread directions.
btw RickyBlender there was a pretty decent example of it in the other link I posted earlier.
well i v seen a weave plugin like that
but have to set mat ect…
interested ?
Weave Plug in texture

other way would be to make your own weave fiber with arrays for a real 3D model
and then apply some mat to it !

That’s probably what I’m looking for FlashBrando. Where can I get the material file or instructions on how to make it?
