This is looking cool, I like the design! If you find UV unwrapping daunting, I’d suggest the DreamUV addon. Karl Poyzer has a great video showing how it works and I think it would give you really nice results here. Procedural textures are okay, but I really think DreamUV will help in this instance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akeWEcpIxP0
