I’m working on a cartoon cat for a personal project. Figured I might as well make a WIP thread here. The goal is to model, texture, and rig the character. I expect progress will be a bit on the slow side, but hopefully eventually I will finish it.
I’m and on-again-off-again drawer. I’ll go crazy for a couple of months, and then stop for a few months, then go crazy for another couple of months…
This character design took me a good six months or so to work out, and to get decent drawings of. The concept art makes me look more skilled than I really am. These are the best drawings out of a lot more, most of which weren’t very good.
HAR!! Nice to see you getting a start on this. It’s a cool concept.
BTW we just acquired a young cat a couple of weeks ago. Watching his antics has gotten me inspired to break away from human characters. I’ve even been shooting some vid ref. (His first encounter with snow was a classic!)
Cat’s bodies can be so expressive.
Another update. Just worked on the body. I tweaked the face a little bit too.
None of the pieces are connected up yet (ears are separate from head which is separate from body).
Aah, but it will when you animate I’m sure. I find it hard to model in a neutral pose, when the character I want has so much life!
Might try making the brows more pronounced, and even harder and straighter, chin more defined, and more straight lined with the nose. I think you need some more squared off features to achieve the look you have in 2d. Anyway it’s looking great, can’t wait to see it move.
