is it possible to use UV texturing to carve a column by making the UV texture into a bump map? Is it possible to use 2 UV textures, one to carve and one to color?
First you make the layout for the colors for the uv , then you make a seperate one for the bump set both to uv coordinates and it should work set the bump to bump and the color to color.
(BTW I use 2.42 and most of the tutorials are different, as are a lot of the techniques I read here.)
When I set up UV texture I have “UV face select” in one window and UV image editor in another. I save the unwrapped image, paint it, whatever, then I do an “Image->Open” to load the texture, then set the TexFace button in the materials.
You are saying don’t load the texture in the UV image editor, but load it as a texture and on the Map Input tab choose the “UV” button? It certainly doesn’t line up right when I do that, but maybe I am not getting all the settings exact.
Then you say “set the bump to bump and the color to color.” sorry – this is way beyond my grasp of the lingo.

exactly.
the second statement you will use 2 textures one to color and one to bump, the color one you mat to color and the bump you map to normal, thats it.
how do I make it line up? when you draw on a uv texture and load it in the uv image editor it lines up exactly. when I load the same image as a texture I have to set repeat even to see it – it doesn’t line up at all.
