I’ve started a new site, ersatzanime.com intending to function as a repository of characters for download and animations, in an attempt to get people to learn 3d animation. I’m using blender because it’s free and open source, so it’s available to anyone at a click of a button, and I’m trying to make things as simple as possible by saving the models with a limited selection of windows so people won’t be overwhelmed.
The site will have ultra simple tutorials like “how to move the character’s arm” in an attempt to demistify the whole 3d thing. I think it helps I’m sort of new at blender (Though not at 3d) so I can see through a new user’s eye better.
I’m still figuring things out, like how best to distribute animations. In other software the animation is a separate file, but blender tends to bundle things together. All the models will if possible use the same rigs so animation would be transferrable (With some adjustment) between models.
So, what sort of animations should I post? The basic run/walk cycles come to mind, but the idea is to attract rank newbies so they might pick a character, apply the animation and make their own first animation without much trouble. Suggestions and advice are welcome! As well as models, if you have any to submit (I try to add to the models I post rather than just repost them, rigging, new geometry, shape keys, etc)
