Hello everyone, my name is William Oglesby. A few weeks back my friend Wes Talbott (http://wes-talbott.deviantart.com/) who is going to CCAD approached me and asked if I would like to help him on his design final, where he was going to be working on the development of a character for animation. I readily accepted the challenge, wanting to test blender out in a serious production. The following image is the result.
Everything 3D was done in Blender 2.49B. We ran out of time for doing animation of the character, because the Project Deadlines were kinda tight. He may be used in other things in the future though, you never know I do have a turntable though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtaeE7kzml0 Thank you!
The green flames are post production done in photoshop by Wes Talbott. He says it’s a splattery brush set to color dodge, overlay and then gaussiant blurred. Thanks for the question! I’m happy to provide answers/images for you guys.
very cool! the green flame effect looks great. would be cool to try to replicate it in blender, i dont really like the current halo system, it seems a little underpowered. but your model looks great, maybe i should look more into postpro.
Perfect! I like it!
The omly correction I have to make is that the green jet comeing from the feet is overlaying them… It should be covered…
Great work however
@wysiwyg: The halo system on it’s most basic level isn’t to terrible, but yes, it wasn’t enough for what I wanted here, and there wasn’t really time to figure out the 2.5alpha smoke simulation stuff. there is a great tutorial on how to do some cool stuff with the halo system here though: http://semiprotuts.com/blender/make-an-exploding-star-deep-in-space-with-blender
@llamalizard There was some small RGB adjustment in blenders compositor, just some basic nodes, before sending it off to Photoshop. Nothing fancy though
@Giovanni: I see what you mean. I think his intent was to show a “burst cloud” as well, so there is some spray that goes around and over, because there is a lot of energy that is required to hold a stable “standing position” in the sky.
@Meatlover: Haha Thank you. I’m terrible at the Metroid games btw
Originally, I was going to use an animated displacement on a mesh and motion blur to create a flame something like this but in non explosion form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjw3fu4z7Wc but that required a lot of experimentation that hadn’t been done yet, and as the deadline approached and we decided not to do animation it was just easier to do it in Photoshop. Thanks!
