Cell Fracture - Object Explodes When It Shouldn't

I just started experimenting with the Cell Fracture add-on. I’ve seen numerous tutorials showing objects dropping onto a plane and crumbling. Very simple, it seemed. Cell Fracture, run it in the game engine, done.

When I do it, the object explodes in the air, and then fall. Is this a glitch or am I missing something? The object should stay solid until it hits another object, I thought.

Mac OSX 10.6.8
Blender 2.67

Here’s a video showing my problem:

Seems to be a glitch with 2.67. I downloaded 2.66 and it works fine.

Hey there,

I hope you’re still online on this forum somotimes. I think I have the same problem as you discribed above. I cell fractured an object and it seems to explode after pressing p. Blender version 2.66 doesn’t have this problem. All the releases 2.67; 2.68a and even 2.69 still have this problem. Should it be a bug?? Or did you solve it already? I can’t imagine almost no one else has this problem, since I haven’t read much about it on the forum.

Hope you have an answer for me

I too am having this problem. Help!

the bullet physics are in the view port now, there’s no need to use the game engine any more.
to make it stay together, you need to add breakable constraints to the shards; this is make very easy with the bullet constraints tools here:

alternatively, there is a fracture modifier in development that makes this much easier, download a test build here:

the documentation is found here:http://wiki.blender.org/index.php?title=User:Scorpion81

There are certain types of geometry which cause fractures to be successful or unsuccessful.
This YouTube tutorial explains it well:
