Last month we posted about our Blender training website CG Masters going live: cgmasters.net .
I’m very excited to announce our two launch training DVDs. ‘Realtime Environment Creation’ by Christopher Plush and ‘Ninja Character Creation’ by Lee Salvemini, are complete and available to purchase!
For both training DVDs, you can choose the download version to get instant access to the files, or get a DVD shipped to your door!

We also have free tutorials you can watch right away, including an ongoing Blender 2.5 series. Check it out…
And finally you can follow us on Facebook for all of our recent updates!
Thanks to the whole Blender community for your support, more soon![/b]
I’m looking forward to my copy (DVD not download). We have bandwidth cap in our area. Downloading gigabytes of data is not reasonable. I can wait.
Hope to see you guys tackle product shot rendering using Blender internal. (Modeling can be skipped.) Or you can show how to use third party rendering engines.
Thanks all for your support. We’re really proud of these DVDs and have packed in so much, especially from our experiences in open movie/game projects.
We’ll be working soon on some more free tutorials as the DVDs are complete and we have a little more time, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated. Let us know if there is anything you are curious to know more about! We want to make tutorials of things you are interested in =)
Tyrell: Thanks for purchasing! I’m in Australia so I have a horrible gig limit here too. That’s why we chose to provide free shipping for the real DVD, as I am in the exact same position as you when it comes to investing in 3D education. I’ve actually had a couple of people mention there isn’t enough resources for product shot rendering, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I’ve done this type of rendering before, so I’ll put this in my big list of tutorial ideas.
I purchased the Environment DVD as a download and it took awhile but is worth it.
I have gone through part 1 and it is great! I have learned many things I was weak on, like normal maps, AO, etc.
The price for 14 hours of professional education is amazing.
the BGE tut looks pretty good but $60US… I probably know more than half of what you taking about is there away I can just buy a chapter for like $10:confused:
Yes. We all know that 3d is a vast territory which is split in different types of specialization. Aside from animation I’m very sure the majority of 3d users are into stills. I’ve seen a lot of tutorials tackle photo-realistic rendering, but they are mostly of the amateurish variety. They always leave you with more questions than answers. You look at 3d galleries after another and you’d always wonder how it is done. Well, why not show how it’s actually done and I’m sure lots of people are willing to pay for them.
The workflow might consist of skipping the modeling part and head straight to lighting, adding textures and materials, uv’ing, how to add decals, raised or embossed, engraved letters or symbols on surfaces by using bump or displacement, etc. Then render, then you may add compositing tips. I don’t know. Just tell interested users how it is done.
I’m quite proficient in modeling already, so you can just import any model like a cellphone, watch, chess pieces, a drill, pens, hardware tools, toys, anything that could show how to render any object or model photo-realistically.
You might want to add a third party renderer like Luxrender or Yafaray if BI is not enough for such application.
AdobeMan: Thanks for the suggestion! We decided after a lot of thought to launch with 2 whole project DVDs start to finish to guide a user through, to counter the current dotted tutorials around the internets. Your idea is great for those who wish to learn one certain area of blender quickly. We’ll see if we can implement something like this in the near future!
tyrell: Completely agree! I think some of the future training DVDs you’ll see from us will be a little smaller scale, as these two launch titles cover a good amount of Blender’s fundamentals between them. So from here we can dive in deeper and really get technical. Lighting/Rendering/Compositing is covered in Ninja Character Creation and is suitable for most projects, but going from stylized to realistic takes it to a whole new level, and we will be happy to create a learning guide for realistic rendering as you mention!
NinthJake: Yep they’re done now! We’ve just finished recovering from carefully editing the audio and captions for the combined 25 hours! Back to adding more content now! As for download size it depends on the training DVD, though each DVD fits on one dual layer disc (as per the shipped version). We use a hosting system where we can send out encrypted links for those who order the download option. We’ve just implemented a new server also and tested it under multiple downloads at the same time, they show great speeds!
Cheers again guys! If you have any more questions about the training just let us know! We’re always around.
tyrell: thanks mate! this will really help in our plans for our next DVDs.
NinthJake: Hey! haha well all who pre-ordered will be getting special discounts in the future, and we don’t have any bundle packages planned right now, but it is something we’d really like to do later on (probably when our next DVDs are out, but don’t hold your breath!).
Two more big free tutorials are coming in a few days too, and we’ll update you on the happenings in this new year! BTW if you’ve already bought either of the DVDs please let us know what you think of them. Your feedback is super important to us.
Thanks for all your support guys, it’s just making us work harder! May you all find success in 2011.
