I was just looking around on the CG talk forums earlier, and considered joining because of the much larger Maya user population there. Anyway, I was wondering if people could tell me how they treat the ‘new people’ and beginner artists with maybe not so professional looking work. How’s the general atmosphere there? I haven’t been lurking there enough yet, so I can’t really tell.
I don’t go there often but I heard they’re pretty arrogant, but I’ve also heard that if you PM an artist there and ask them for help then there’s a big chance that they help you.
most of them seem to be ok, just a few who think they are to good for anyone.
just go ahead, if they give you stick, give it back
just dont mention blender in any threads, they tend to ignore it lol
but all in all its a pretty decent forum, were you can learn a heck of a lot
Well, my personal experience is, that the community is definitely very different from the one here. One reason is that it is much bigger and the second reason is that it is much more professional. Nothing wrong with that, the support you get in their WIP forum is great (as far as I can tell from looking at various threads) and you’ll learn a lot in the support forums, especially if you’re using something like Maya. I personally have not met any arrogance yet, only a few people might do that but they are not really accounted as professional then.
I personally thought it is a great forum, maybe the best for CG in general, as you really find so much informations, be it general stuff or application specific. And especially if you’re good or if you want to become serious about CG (which is something I never wanted ), though not the best choice as a Blenderuser - I came back here
But I still check it out almost everyday…
Great forum. I have spent many hours reading through the threads there.
My impressions: Lots of helpful accomplished people there. I don’t see arrogance myself, but there are many pros there and they tend to talk straight to the point, don’t suffer fools and lazy people, and refuse to put up with any BS. Not much touchy feely there -which is good imo. More like what you’ll find in the “real” world (especially in the entertainment business).
Good full-time admin and moderation with strict rules too. You won’t have to deal with a bunch of childish forum addicts spamming your threads with pointless nonsense and petty bickering there.
they’re all incredibly helpful from what i’ve posted, as a newbie.
