“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week and will be featured in the Feature Row.”
Open. All modeling in Blender 2.69 but a bunch of post in paint.net, so calling it open.
In trying to think out of the box my first idea was an old west saloon in a modern setting, calling it “The Final Frontier Saloon”. Got of to a good start, but again, way too ambitious for a WEC, so I whipped out a low poly Enterprise in about an hour, including post work.
I didnt really find time to do 3d stuff these times. Started on Friday with this, but i intensified learning japanese and coding an app there is not much time left. So i will skip participating here for some time.
But i will still come and vote and answer some user questions in my breaks.
Not sure how pure it is (Cycles) - the astro photo and Earth are downloaded from the internet, a bit of touch-up in GIMP. The text is a screen-grab from Wordpad (I found Blender text somewhat uncooperative).
Also, I got close to the end and then pieces ended up all over the place in render, although the viewport looked just fine. Apply transforms, reset origin, remove parenting - none helped. Eventually I had to Ctl-J join things to keep them in place.
In fact I had to redo and reload because the yellow chevron on the engine pod wouldn’t cooperate.
I never noticed this before, but if frontier was a German word (consisting of “Fron” (~corvée) and “Tier” (=animal)), it would describe a poor animal forced to work for its landlord.
