“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week and will be featured in the Feature Row.”
Blender 4.3 cycles open entry. Taken from the fear of heights challenge from roughly 4 years ago, or to be more precise, the first week that I worked at Intelcom. I remember winning that particular challenge. This week I asked to go from a full time worker to part time. I feel this influenced my choices. I got the body model from my controversial entry for the in the shadows challenge. I placed a few copies of her at the street level to act as spectators, they turned out to be little dots due to their distance from the camera. Odd thing considering the cars are perfectly visible.
Open. The Homer mesh was downloaded, he just needed a quick rigging job. I made everything else. There are a few ugly parts/errors, but I’m out of time.
I made a GIF too, so you can see the loop, but I’m using the video as the entry because it’s got sound and it’s more fun.
All textures are based on own photos. And as it is difficult enough, to get a decent material from just a self-shot photo, I have no problem declaring it pure.
Originally I wanted to make the leave explode or break upon impact. But as I went out to collect leaves, I was so inspired by the ice crystals, that I included them into my render, yes even making them to the secret star of the scene ;-).
I used the amazing Ucupaint free addon from Extensions to texture the crates and forklift. Total game changer for me. Bit of Blender compositing for glare, sat, and contrast
Pure. A Laboratory Dance. Can’t get chemistry out of my head after a 40+ year career and then trying to learn Blender as a retiree at 70 years. Taking baby steps, enjoying the process, and learning from all the amazing posts!
I had something else in mind first and started working on a human character, but it turns out I need longer than a weekend to finish that So I decided to go for a different idea and I’m really happy with the final result
