the above one is the final render, the other was created and uploaded out of frustration when the original file was corrupted after a crash. luckily I could recover it in time
I’m glad you managed to restore the file. Thankfully, there are a few options for recovering blend files, or at least some of the contents of the files. However, whenever I read something like this, I immediately check Blender’s preferences to make sure that I have set the Temporary Files directory to a location that survives a reboot. (Linux can be quite relentless when it comes to cleaning up after work!)
