Blender 5.1 non competing open entry. I took the wand from my Magic Wand entry, turns out it was also made of wood.

What an interesting theme.
My aim this time was to replicate the old 1930’s style poster, but also use 3d!
So we have the wooden toy being part but not part of the poster

You start with a cube - or in my case 3 cubes, as it took 3 goes to get the car body exacly right

then onto painting the poster - this time I sort of went for a printed chalk look

and if you look real close you can see my guidelines…

all textures, etc by me in blender:)

racing duck

pure

I am pretty sure I had a cute duck on wheels when I was a child. I’m also pretty sure my dad built it himself. I hadn’t thought about this toy in a veeeeery long time.

Oh yeah, I should do that for the challenge.

So I started modeling it, made sure it had no hard edges a child could get hurt on, created the wood material, rotated the wheels a little bit, and added the procedural rope I can’t stop using since I recreated it.

And when I looked at the final picture that came together, I started questioning myself. Isn’t this duck actually pretty typical? Like something you’d find in almost every child’s toy box? And where is this duck now, if it ever really was mine?

And now I’m not sure if my brain is inventing ducks and placing them into my childhood memories.

ground texture and hdri from poly haven
procedural wood material
stacked cubes generated from default cube with geometry nodes

to be honest, i planned something completely different (also with wooden cubes), but could not archive it  i’m totally happy with the result anyways.

here’s a screenshot of my node setup:

Oh - more than one object… :hushed:

How do you feel about that? Are you okay? If you need someone to talk to - or a shoulder to lean on…

Reach out!

it feels a little bit overwhelming, yeah, but as it is basically the same data object, only rendered at different positions and slightly different rotation around the z-axis, I can cope with it mentally, somehow.

thanks for asking, it good to know there is someone around who cares. and since i’ve seen your lavender field last time, i’m pretty sure you can feel the burden of having to many objects on the screen

“Train Yard” - Pure

Inspired by photos of real train yards, I wondered what a Brio version one would look like. I looked up measurements of Brio train tracks and spent ages modeling them (getting the bevel to behave correctly on the fork was a topological nightmare). Then made a procedural shader for the wood which randomly offsets per object.

I couldn’t find measurements for the train so I modelled them by eye, using the tracks as a reference.

Close up of the wood shader:

It’s a voronoi pattern for the fine wood grain combined with concentric cylinders for the larger grain features, and some noise distortion and random offsets per object.

The geometry for the fork piece:

Open

Since I did not make the wood material myself I feel like this is open. All modelling by me.

I made another version for fun as well.

Wood Thing - Open

First time ever participating and did not have much time!

I wanted to do a robot from a setting where they have some kind of animatronic mechs made out of wood where they use large woodworking tools in combat (Im made this up in 2 minutes haha)!

Actually, you don’t have to go “non-competing”. Even if the project heavily relies on external software and doesn’t count as “pure” anymore - you can always compete with an “open” entry. So, if you want your entry to compete - just change the category to “open”.

Brilliant entry btw. Welcome on board!

Wow, with that entry, you might just win, even as an open entry :sunglasses:

What does it mean that it was done in 2 minutes? How is that possible?

Is it some kind of robotic generator?
