“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week and will be featured in the Feature Row.”
Had a lot of trouble getting a good shape for the lantern(s) so I ended up doing what you do in real life and just wrapped the paper casing around a frame (but with geometry nodes)
One of those pieces that start out basic and end up being so fun to work on that you can’t stop adding things
Viewport/wireframe, here you can better see some hints of the frame inside the lanterns
Sometimes you just need to get it out - so let it go…
Geometrically, it’s a rather simple scene, but I’ve used a lot of light linking, shadow linking, and projections with procedural patterns on spotlights. This makes it look more complex than it actually is.
Open entry: Character I downloaded, Bug was created for another Weekend Challenge. Blender 3.6 EEVEE & Freestyle.
Just a simple ‘feelgood’ bit this time around due to lack of time. Got the idea on the commute home from work Saturday night, so that only gave me 2 evenings to work on this. Wanted to add a 2nd scene where the bug meets its end…
I created the bug for Weekend Challenge #1201 but didn’t have time to do the animation I had in my mind. Even though the challenge ended, I kept working on my idea, and posted it as a YouTube short here
