Challenge #346 (24/07/09) CLOSED

Theme #346 for 24 July 2009 is: Seashells

Entry closes at 2100 GMT -5 Monday, 27 July 2009.

this sounds like a job for the shell making script.

Hmmmm, I guess no one likes my topic very much… sorry, I just thought that since we had a bunch of man-made topics, I should pick something natural.

Either that or everyone loves the theme so much that they’re all so engrossed in their work that they haven’t had time to post anything yet… probably not though

Well, I started. But won’t have time to finish. I have been busy this weekend.

Here’s my entry, “nautilus”

Not a bad topic amiller, but I must admit, I’ve never tried to model a seashell before and it’s harder than I first thought. I guess that’s why someone made a script.

I’ve been struggling to get ngPlant or l-systems to work today (just got ngplant going), I just don’t think my heads working properly. I’ve stuff to do on Monday but i’ll try and finish my entry. But I won’t submit a preview because without any trees it’s like an abourists’ been on a rampage without his glasses (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xRJRuOXNjg)

Some sea shell…

Yeah idk about the topic. I absolutely cannot bring myself to be inspired about modeling some sandy seashell scene, so I was thinking about some killer robot creature with a giant sea shell head… But if I spent alot of time on the body i’d probably want to just make a cooler head so I gave up on that notion.

I think typically the more general ones have more participants. Like instead of seashells perhaps “Beach”. Everyone is into different things, so with a theme like “beach” people could model seashells, the ocean, hot babes, some umbrellas and beach balls, sand castles, or perhaps a mythical sea creature that has washed up, or a ship runashore, etc. Seashells is hard to take in a different direction without being extremely avant garde. I’d think generally teenage males (who are likely the majority of blender artists) aren’t too interested in seashells.

Well, I wanted to see someone model a seashell, and I’m a teenage male BTW… but I think you’re right, the more general the topic the better, I just thought it would be cool to try something natural instead of man-made. I didn’t stop to realize that it was too specific.

It hard to make a shell, but I tried and its not very good.
This is just an oyster with a pearl.

I don’t think the topic is too specific. Besides, you won the challenge last week so you get to pick whatever you want, It is a pretty challenging topic, but that’s a good thing.

Very nice so far everyone…I like it Urth:D

Could be better. Took about an hour.

Blender and Photoshop for contrast adjustment, nothing I would consider unpure.

I think it is good to have natural/organic themes once in a while as they often offer completely different modeling and lightening challenges.

Here is my entry for this week: “Sandy Treasures”

@amiller: I thought the topic was just fine, with plenty of room for interpretation. As my folks would say, “You done good!”

I was all set to go on this one, made sketches and planned out my colors even. But then I got hung up on a crash problem. If I ever get it figured out, I’ll post in one of the other forums. Even though I couldn’t finish in time, I was pleased to learn some techniques I hadn’t bothered with before.

I look forward to seeing all the entries, and hope to try some more Challenges after I get back from vacation.

Sorry, couldn’t bring myself to blend this weekend, not the subject. I was going to do a truk lagoon/ voyage to the bottom of the see flying sub/ leather back hatchling leaving a prity sheel shaped paturn in the sand as it land flapped to the see. Then I god an infected wisdom tooth followed by that flew possably. So Ive been up to the max on paracetamol, and ibuprofen and Its still to painfull to blend. Tamiflu arrived, so at least that shoulden get to much worse. But I might have to get me pliers out yet.

Bogey,

ps as usuall some brillient work. Helix, s–t hot again. I ll have a proper look and vote later.
