Looks like some cool entries this week.
Not looking forward to being judged against Écrivain. That entry is fantastic. How did you get localised textures?? Also where are those words from? Their beautiful
x
o I just made the words up earlier today right after I made the image.
At first I was going to do a different idea, where a moon circles the planet constantly dropping bits of dust that create these spikes. When they are young they form in random directions, but as they grow old they are pulled towards the moon as it orbits (like high tide in the ocean.)
(MyPaint)
But after attempting to model it by hand I gave up and didn’t do anything for two days, when I thought I’d retry to make it using procedural displacement and vertex groups instead of manually doing it. Well, I could never get the winded, swift feel to it that I wanted and I kept getting these spikes because the model didn’t have enough polygons. So I was trying to figure out how to make it look more swept and added a bend simple deform modifier and from a view looking up the ‘bent’ hill I got this (what you see in the finished image.)
So when I was about to change it all up and make it fit the original idea the idea for this image came to mind and I was done with the image before I knew it, literally. Just a little compositing and then the words.
The material is just a few procedural textures. Unfortunately I seem to have overwritten the scene file but I have a backup of the material from the original idea which I’ve attached.
P.S. I like the rain much better in your image now.

I have been working on some background rocks for a short film with a few guys from BA. Since I made it this weekend even thought I didn’t know about this theme till sunday I thought i would post my Landscape.
The Image For the Weekend challenge.
Some further images of this ground site.
And last but not least a video of the thing lol. IT has some texture issues because the film was only 100 fames and I time remapped it in AE.

Was that done with the sculpt tool? x
Yep all sculpted then baked into a normal map… And 4 material stencil nodes for the smaller textures. Pretty simple really.
What the heck. I can throw something up here.
