Challenge #418 (04/02/11) CLOSED

Theme #418 for 4 February 2011 is: Token of Affection

Entry closes at 2100 GMT -5 Monday 7 February 2011.

IF this contest is still going, this is my entry. Unintentionally titled “Love is blind” due to a friends sarcasm. LOL

It was a long wait for this one, and it almost fits the brief/grief.

Token of Reflection.

Great to see BA back.

So good to see Blender Artists back

This was my non-competing entry for the contest:

You Can Have It

RobertT

What a horrible nightmare, BA was down and there was no WC…I’m glad it was just a dream.

Here’s my entry, “Tokens”

I love the bear Taz, nice work on the fur:)

RT, I hope you make your entries participating more often, you always come up with such good topics!

Awww man. I didn’t get a chance to see the topic before the site crashed. You guys seemed to really make the most of the extra time.

Thanks Helix! I got a question tho…How’d you do the roses?? I tried a thousand times and could never figure it out!

Has Helix been sending Taz roses?
–<--<–@

Taz, I love it!

Bogey, stunning guitar!

RT, well! :spin:

Helix, surreal composition!

… me, well,

Good work all, I didn’t get to see before the crash either I’ll be in next week! Glad to ba back!

Taz, no heavy lifting for sure, after all it is me you’re talking about. The roses were actually really simple, just a smashed down sphere for each petal, and shaped like a rose petal with proportional editing. I’m sure not the best way to model roses, and a lot of verts, but that’s how I did it:)

Thanks for noticing the composition rarebit! For a reference, I pulled all the petals off a real rose while saying, “rarebit loves me, rarebit loves me not.” That’s why you only got 11 instead of a whole dozen

I share your sentiment Croisened! Glad to be back on BA 2.0

Ow thanks man, I thought me mom sent me them out of pity! :o

Thanks rarebit. I recycled most of it. In fact while I was thinking what to do for the challange I heard about Gary Moore dieing in Spain, so decided to remodel my old L6s to match one he used to play. To turn it into a picture, I recycled the window frame, and just added the handles. The view through the window is a photo I took many years ago while on a photography course, mapped to a plane. There are a lot of small faults with the picture, but thats how it was by the deadline. Excuse the pun.

Good work everyone.

Bogey, I love the image, and the photo too. Looks like a nice place to be! Maybe just because I’m ready for spring.

My entry is as an attachment. Perhaps I should have scaled it down to a smaller size. Anyway, in our circles, it’s more common to give an engagement watch rather than an engagement ring.

Also, for some reason, when working with photos and Blender, my CRT monitor gives me a lot darker results than with my laptop’s LCD. I’ve tried color adjusting both (including the gamma settings), yet my CRT consistently makes things darker and blend in more than the LCD. So, you may want to look at this on a different monitor.

Woohoo! Welcome back BlenderArtists, what an agonizing couple of weeks it’s been. I felt like I’d lost an arm. Some very, very nice entries so far, I love them all, it’s gonna be a tough vote come Monday.

Here’s my effort, it’s called,

One man’s trash…

Pure Blender Internal 2.49b

Good Luck All.

Too late to submit? (I’m kidding) =P In seriousness, is this (re)starting this week (or probably next until the dust settles)?

hmmm… a very high quality of entrys guys

Hi Helix, yes it was an amazing sight. I think the farmer had just dragged the field, and then left it.
I was trying to outdo your guitar pic from a while back.

That WAS a while ago bogey, I’m surprised you remembered, but I think you succeeded!

samcan, it looks good on my monitor!

Wallace, I like it! Very original, and green too:)

Thanks Helix, those roses look excellent too. For some reason when I saw the topic I was reminded of a scene in Terry Gilliam’s The Fisherking when, walking home from a meal Robin Williams picks up the wire from a champagne cork from a pile of trash, twists it into the shape of a chair and hands it to his date as a “token of affection”. This always struck me as being a much truer sentiment than any expensive bottle of perfume or such, so that is what the image was based on.
