Challenge #63 Voting CLOSED

Thanks steve343. I didn’t think I would get any votes. :expressionless:  I like Idgas’, x-warrior’s, and robbertt’s.

If I saw tortxofs’ pterodactyl outside the plane I’d likely kill myself to hug it [!] :stuck_out_tongue:

I love it’s expression!

A guy is skating in his local skate park and has an unusual encounter with the grim reaper.

dude!

but this week… I’m going for erk’s alien… the hand/lighting could of been tweaked abit… but the head mesh (the eyes) and the texture caught my eye…

I can’t fault Xs job on his buildings and lighting… superb… the machine doesn’t do anything for me though… (maybe it’s the sheer size of the thing… doesn’t look right… plus… how did it get there?.. maybe it’s too close to the building aswell… not that machines need room(?)).

Sure if I encounterd one in real life I’d be best taking a run over some farmers land to help out (get it?..

HAHA HA HA :Z

)

but

ERK!

Sweet jesi thats alot of entries!

I felt compelled to vote for treedee because the grim reaper on a skate park is just so off the wall it made me laugh for a long time.

I cant believe i have 4 votes, whats wrong with you people?? Vote for the good entries, not my little 20 minute chop job!

sob
Nobody has noticed mine. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I don’t care that much. For me, it was an accomplishment of around 6-10 hours work. I’m just happy that I was able to add the details I had envisioned. (May I suggest turning up the gamma on your monitor to see it better, if it is too dark?) Anyway…

Lots of entries this weekend…

Man, X-WARRIOR, yours is really cool. I think bluedemon deserves a vote, as well, the mood for that one is very clean and precise. laughs at rwenzlaff and Enos Shenk funny ideas there. three-dee, your skater looks blissfully dumbfounded. anton42, awesome lighting with yours as well…

I think everyone deserves a thumbs up and a pat on the back. Each piece has it’s own little thing that makes it unique and Encounteriffic! Can’t wait for the next challenge.

Don’t feel bad. I thought for sure I’d get a couple of votes, but currently it does not look as if it will happen. Just no accounting for taste sigh. But as Ahnold would say,…: ‘I’ll be back’.

Hey…

I got a vote!!! :o

Now I’m impressed… :o

Anyway, congratulations to everybody, once more…

Everybody did a hell of a good job…

Spyros.

I would like to thank anyone voting for me, and especialy Nico for mentioning my work in a positive way.
I must say I’m quite dissapointed at the number of votes iIgot.
Not that I think my work is ubercool and I also realise that there was some stiff competition.
But just one person other than myself (yes I did the unethical thing) and only one person mentioning my work has left me feeling a little bit empty.
Therefore I’ve made the conlcusion that as of from now, I’m not going too spend a second more than 24 hours on any challenge.

I think the important thing is not that you impress others, but simply that you try to outdo your previous efforts. It is more important to impress yourself.

yeah you’re right…, but it’s also good to get some feedback from other people.
I really thought that I outdid myself this time, but without any result.
So that has lead to some serious doubt’s on my side.
Should I restrict to making battlemech like stuf? cause that’s clearly what people like to see.
Am I making crappy stuf without noticing it myself…?

The people that vote for X-W don’t vote because he’s got battlemech stuff, but because it’s a hell of a good work in general…

Keep on doing what you’ve been doing so far and try to improve your own personal style and skills…

I like it…

Spyros.

I sure as hell will.
Also I recognize the fact that x-warrior makes impressive stuff.
I’m not changing my opinion on the mech thing…but I’ll try to improve whichever direction that might be…

Everyone did a great job. I especially liked Robert’s, X-warrior’s and Erk’s pictures. But I only have one vote and it goes to Erk. The alien is cute and I like glowing marble thingies.

The important thing is to make something YOU like to do…I always liked to make sci-fi stuff…and I always seem to make scenes like that lol…So I suggest you to “find” your style…and try to improve it…or something even better would be to try to make alot of different style of work…so that way you’ll be good in everything

thanx for the advice
that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. the different styles thin that is…
cause I regard one style as a serious drawback.

The fact that I mentioned the mech thing is because youre work as great as it looks didn’t seem to have a lot to do with “The encounter”.
But that mighht be due to the fact that I don’t know the inner sphere from the outer one.
It’s nothing personall And I surely would be happy to see you win, however I would be even happyer to see robertt win for instance…

Actually I questionned myself before doing that pic…but since The InnerSphere “encountered” the clans…I thought it was quite related to the subject…Since it was quite a big encounter…cause the innersphere didn’t expected the clans to return… anyway, maybe I should have not entered it :-?

oh no!! don’t take mmy words like that.
I meant that I don’t know the innersphere, but clearly a lot of people do, looking at you’re vote count

I think the main reason people are surprised that they aren’t getting votes is that there’s soooooooooooo many entries, it makes it difficult to sorta stand out.

The issue of theme relevance is a big one. Some people decide their votes by who has the best (or clearest) interpretation of the theme. (in which case, I’d vote for robertt) Some people decide their votes on the funniest entry, or the most detailed scene. The themes are just ideas for people to take off with, and they will always lead to creatively varied entries. X-WARRIOR’s is an encounter of sorts, and people like it because of the way it looks, the details, etc. One can easily have an “encounter” with a wooden pencil, and it will still fit the theme, but it won’t be as exciting, unless you bring something really creative into it. While the mech isn’t a blatant alien visitation… it can still garner votes. The same goes for a lot of this weeks entries. I think it’s partly the theme’s fault, though – “The Encounter” is a very broad term, and this is why we have so many people with different ideas.

koudejongen, yours is the only entry that actually releases adrenaline into my system. It’s good!

So it´s all my fault !! :o
Well, I really take some time to find a good topic for the WC. There´s two philosophies in this: either it is very open or not. The two times I had the chance to pick a topic, I chose themes with, I must admit, a lot of room for interpretation. Maybe too much. The reasons:

  • I want to challenge the skill of having a good idea, rather than only technical experience. The feeling of a picture is still the most important thing for me. Regarding the technical skill, there´s always thousands of guys who can do better, but a good idea can outwit anyone.

  • specific themes require certain techniques. In the theme ‘space battle’, the ones who are good at organic modeling and bad at particles for example, might not want to enter at all. Bad example maybe, but you get the point.

I will think about what you said.

I don’t think it’s your fault.
I think it’s more my fault for bringing this topic up. :expressionless:
Off course this whole challenge thing is just for fun and to sharpen our skills.
Maybe it would be a funny idea to experiment with a 3 way poll. theme, technique an humor for example

Well said soren.
