Challenge #751 Voting CLOSED

This week’s theme:

After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared: The voting will close on Wednesday.
The winner picks the theme for next week.

[ If the winner doesn’t supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner’s theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT. ]

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won’t be included in the voting.

Great job everyone and congrats to getting your entries in. Awesome entries.

@fdo you had something really nice going. The robot foot looked very nice, the flowers are spectacular, but the image was ruined by the poor image quality on the ground texture. A better ground texture would’ve changed everything. Some additional comments.

-The rust looks great but maybe make it so that the rust isn’t glossy
-Maybe also add some simple displacement to the rusty bits.
-The lighting could also be improved. Maybe some emission planes rather than a sun or spot lamp.
-the lump on the ground seems odd to me and out of place. I think the image would look just fine without it.
-Some particle systems for patches of grass and pebbles and stuff could add a lot to the scene. (literally)

Anyway thats just my opinion.

Hey, the same thing has been happening to me. GPU compute was lost in Blender and I needed to restart OS from time to time. I am using Linux, 387.12 driver. I’m not sure if it’s because of driver or because I’ve been using Blender from master/buildbot, and also 2.8.
What OS and what version of nvidia driver do you use?

Again you got my vote, DM9!

@ FlyingBanana. Liked your one as I thought it was cool. Curious though as to where the robot on the right comes from? I know I have seen it before but can’t remember where.

@ FuzzyPeachApple. Thought your one was cool too, and welcome to the contest. I know you asked in the submission thread about adding more to the scene and I would say yes. Street lamps, rubbish bins, some road markings and maybe cracked paving, that kind of stuff would help the scene. The cop car is original looking to me and there is a nice story at work.

Some really great entries this week. It came down to trying to choose between 5 entries,

DM9 - Great overall entry
david.speer - love the style!
usernew - really clean render
PyBlend - unique design
bazevedo - story

In the end I went with DM9. I like the added text, that took it over the top for me.

Great job everyone. Wish I would have had time to enter this week, but such is life. I did get a base mesh modeled, but no time for anything else.

@caz747 Thank you, it is supposed to be Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons. Was going to add some more details (like a cart, maybe a toddler bot) but figured with all the other great entries I will try to save more creative juices for the next challenge.

Helge I just wanted to comment again on your character, it’s very well done, very professional. But I just wanted to mention how awesome the lighting on your render is. How many lights you have there? Ah I love it!

Thanks for the votes guys. This is literally the highest honor a 14 year old 3d artist can get.

Yea beau11 your entry came out quite nice. Stick with the 3d stuff and you’ll be a pro in no time.

In times where people admire not very talented Youtubers doing stupid things, the real talent of young people should be emphasized and highlighted! You keep it up!

In times when people use their artwork to only attack others, those that choose to rather reflect inwards should be admired!

Thanks! That’s the goal!

Thanks man that means a lot! I love your entry by the way.

I know this contest is far from over but I’ve always wondered where the theme had to be submitted. If someone could provide a link that would be great.

I’ll send a PM right after the voting has closed (asking for the new theme).

My vote went to Colossus by caz747 because of the intriguing shape of the robot, as well as an excellent color scheme and just the right amount of backdrop. Great job!

@FlyingBanana. Thanks for letting me know it was The Jetsons, it was bugging me as to where I had seen it before. That cartoon in sooo… old.

@FriZan. Cheers for the vote and comments, it’s much appreciated. I wanted to try and design something from scratch this time rather than copy an already existing vehicle, that was harder than I thought it would be, but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out anyway. I do have a suspicion though that if that big old gun on Colossus did fire then the whole thing might topple over.

Such is the way with experimental weapons.
