Challenge #767 Voting CLOSED

This week’s theme:

victimless crime

After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared: The voting will close on Wednesday.
The winner picks the theme for next week.

[ If the winner doesn’t supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner’s theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT. ]

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won’t be included in the voting.

looks like Maxime might just take the cake!

xamenzie and str11 have some pretty good entries as well.

Real tough theme this week, but I went for oJB’s entry as I thought it was the closest to the theme. A bit of DIY can’t hurt anyone.

I left all hope behind me when Maxime posted his entry already.

Thanks caz747, i appreciate it!

I just came by to vote and say hi. I’m so damn busy with life and tired.

This thread is a bit quiet this week. Time for me to babble a lot

Piet: Interesting how it is not immediately clear what this is (I had to think a bit at least). Also cool how it can refer to pollution and street racing at the same time.

DM9: I really liked that style, specially how the smoke looks a lot like his beard and hair. He really got that “chill out” feeling.

RayVelcoro: Pretty cool looking drone. Those eyes and antennae are very cute. What it did to the sign is quite funny

purbosky: I’m sitting at my desk, looking at my screen, and I see a 3d image of a person sitting at his desk, looking at his screen, seeing the 3d image of… The effect is quite funny :D. The game looks nicely detailed, and the HUD is very believable. The poor guy is just a bit too close to the screen

Maxime: Really cool colours and shadows. The details are quite impressive, too! Someone is going to get some infections (or worse) using that syringe

fcharr: Funny double crime: Deleting a cube and defacing a wall. The brick material is quite cool.

didierv: Such a cute rat! Thankfully it did not get hurt with the trap. But where is its tail?

xamenzie: Nice story. That tree also looks pretty cool. Maybe each individual can feels like a unimportant thing, but when they all add up like this…

oJB: Why would someone complain about a plant on a vase, right? It’s just there for decoration! I would keep away from the window though, unless you want the police to come knocking on your door…

bluberri: Nice how you told a story in a somewhat subtle way. Poly-marriage indeed  Also interesting how you manage to make it clear which hands are male and which are female. I just hope that by sister wife-ing you don’t mean the guy married his own sister  Btw, if the fingers are squares, shouldn’t the rings be squares too?

iridesium: Nice work on the powder, it looks pretty nice. The contrast of black with white was also nice.

joshwinkler3d: It is so annoying when people do things like this. You think “Oh, there is a place for my car”, but no, actually your car doesn’t fit because somebody parked terribly bad. The car looks pretty cute and tiny, and the addition of a second shopping cart manage to take care of the emptiness.

Miatpi: Those dice look awesome! They are probably really awkward to use (and also biased), but they look pretty cool. The smoggy atmosphere even makes the scene a bit macabre. I wonder what are the stakes on that game.

str11: I loved the chaos and how colours “don’t match”, that is, the homeless person just collected a bunch of clothes, not caring how good they look. Also nice work with all the cloth materials, I always struggle with this kind of thing  Only weird thing is the plastic bag on the bottom left which seems to be floating.

caz747: Nice take on the theme. Also cool how you used your own “forgotten dreams” for the image. The contrast between dark and bright areas could be stronger though.

RobertT: That cloud with the thunderbolts reminds me a bit of Elvis (maybe because of the “hair”). The mouth also makes me think it is singing

OLG: Pretty nicely detailed machine. I suppose that “cheat” is one of the reasons this kind of machine stopped being common

Helge: That character is really awesome. One could make a nice story with him, you just need to think of some reason for eating one own fruit to be forbidden or taboo. Then this guy finds himself in a desolated area, and has to decide between starving and eating his own fruit. I would totally pay to watch such a movie (even more so if it’s done with stop motion). Too bad the Berlinale is already over

great voting and thanks Millani for writing down your thoughts.

Hi Shenfara…life makes everyone tired… thats a fact.

Thx Millani! Congrats Maxime, well deserved win! Have to mention didierv’s enrty as well, you really nailed this difficult theme imo.

@Maxime congrats on the win! Awesomely detailed render and dark sinking feeling to it.

@Millani Thanks for detailed feedback!
Regarding plastic bag he could have risen from the wind)
You said that colours don’t match. In what sense?

There are some orange clothes together with green ones, and the tent is blue with grey. That’s something that I would expect from a beggar, as they don’t have the luxury to pick a colour for their stuff. But it is not a combination I would use in daily life. I think if you went with complementary colours, for example, the scene would be less authentic. It was meant as a compliment

@Millani Thanks for explanation.I noticed some authentic too).Honestly I wanted to achieve realism and seriousness in scene. But in the end it turned out a good scene with half-cartoon style))

thanks Millani  the secret to my brick wall is… geometry 0_0, yep I modeled and uv-unwrapped them all!

@Maxime, Congrats!

@Millani, thank you for the feedback. I do believe they did stop making the old style machines because of the coin on the string trick.

Millani: LOL, thanks! I can just hear him singing now =)

didierv: I voted for your entry. I really liked the expression on the mouse, as if it couldn’t believe it got the cheese =)

Great efforts, all around, everyone!

Keep up the awesome work!

Your life…

Thanks everyone, and congratulation to all !

Just realized I never congratulated you, so here it is: Congrats Maxime. It’s a very striking image. I love the sort of crispness of it, though I have no clue of how it was done.
