Challenge #824 (05/04/19) Entries CLOSED

I only remember Tririmes from my Greek history, not the Romans, but I’m sure the Romans might’ve liked the design and efficiency of them to copy them whole, or at least some parts.

thanks Helge, now I feel better about mine

The Romans copied them, as they did with a bunch of other things :slightly_smiling_face: From what I can see the Roman designs were a lot less open. Looking at the link above, is seems like triremes were involved in the battle.

Pretty much final render unless something else comes to mind.

“Pure Entry” and going to be called.

“Vox Nihili”
(“The voice of nothing”)

Pure Entry, Cycles, 1000samples.

I thought that the sword should be rusty since most gladiators were basically slaves and fought with whatever they were given. Since no Roman would want to waste “good steel” on “filthy scum” such as gladiators, only the rusty and old equipment was given to them. This is by no means historically accurate it’s just my reasoning for the image

I used a Colosseum model from BlendSwap for the background, but I guess since it’s a blurred background it counts as pure?

I wanted to also model a helmet to include in the composition but I already used up all my Saturday for this and I also have to study for uni so I guess I will leave it as is:) there is some noticeable noise but I didn’t want to increase sampling further because it would take forever to render, and I am not familiar with denoisers yet

For Those About to Rock!

Non-competing

Cycles, 5000 samples, filmic, ManuelBastioni Lab, Cloth Weaver (S) for pants, particle hair system, all new models except the boots. Minor post processing with Paintshop Pro.

Tribute to AC/DC.

I was having a heck of a time figuring out what to do for this week’s challenge. My wife finally suggested the song from AC/DC and it just flowed. Quick guitar model followed by MBLab figure tweaking (a lot). The pants were a pain. I still don’t know how to use cloth weaver very well. I’ve only broken it out maybe twice before. The font is from a bundle I bought years ago. Finally had a reason to use it.

Was wondering if AC/DC was going to get a nod and they sure did.

Lake Fucine, Italy
Open Entry - I used a website called terrain.party to get the heightmap, and a HDRI sky was used to get the lighting.

Additional Information:
This is Lake Fucine/Lake Fucinus before it was completely drained. Nowadays, it is just open farmland.

Lake Fucine was the site that a battle was held before it was to be drained, which is where this week’s theme comes from.
