I voted for Usagi: pure elegance, extremely well modelled. With the right shaders and lighting this could look more real yet. Excellent job, Usagi. I hope you win!

Rafael’s entry also appealed to me, as did DreamMaster’s. Very cute characters and nicely done environment for Rafael, and nice creative handling of the topic for DreamMaster. Nice ray tracing too

I’ll try to comment on some others… mystery00, extra points for creativity there too Cyanid, I like the concept very much. Lemmy, I get it and like what you did there. lukep, another interesting take on the topic. I like the hand modelling there. heli, I really like the way the hair came out on that one, the eyes too. Cool fireworks, Jay Eff! Modron that’s a really interesting scene going there. megamonster, for a first wc, that’s a really good entry! Always glad to see new participants!

• mystery00: interesting idea, i liked the model.
• Cyanid: good idea and interpretation of the subject. it’s simple but has an nice effect.
• lemmy: sorry, but I didn’t understand your concept.
• Usagi: very well done, looks like a real rose! great render!
• lukep: hehehe, good idea.
• Modron: very detailed, I liked that. the lights and the composition are great!
• Smoky Joe: couldn’t you make a happier image? the knife scared me to
  death!

• Enos Shenk: well, this is crazy! but i liked it! another good idea!
• megamonster: interesting idea too, but there are no shadows and the ocean has no waves (don’t know if you wanted this effect).

• heli: i really liked your character, great! (i just think you could put some randomness in the particles).
• Jay Eff: nice fireworks, but you could have worked more on the lights.

• Jack000: i’m sorry to say that, but what did you actually model? I mean, your image is cool, but 95% of it was made in terragen. Next time try to do something using more Blender than other program, I would really like to see your work!

My vote goes to Robertt. I think he capthered the topic very good. It’s a really wavy, airy image with the right hints of love. Great work Robertt.

The other images where also interesting nonetheless, and I will try to tell you all, what I felt about your pictures:

mystery00: Good idea, but I think this image lacks some background. I looks like a picture from a magazine. So I think it could be a lot funnier, if you had added some text about it’s capabilities next to it. I also see that you made the Gun reflective, but there is nothing around to reflect.

Cyanide: This is actually the idea, I wanted to do with blender, but instead of with birds, with a sheep and a pig on a hill. But well. I think your image is to dark. I would have made the sky dark blue, and had added a nice dark lamp in front or above the other things to get some slight details. Also the moon lacks some details.

Lemmy: Sorry, but this is to minimalistic to me. While it makes me “ahhh” a little, there is no love in it (at least in my opinion). To few details also.

Usage: Great image. I love the model and the lighting. (and especially the background… ). But also a rose is the symbol of love, this image didn’t make me very “ahhh”. Nevertheless really cool entry.

lukep: Never show this picture to your girl friend. Funny idea though. Well done. Lighting could be improved.

Modron: This is the second best entry IMHO. Great image, though very yafray-y. I think this image is very funny, because the atmosphere of your image make you almost smell the love. Hope the hygienic service is very good there!

Smoky Joe: Not very “lovely”, this picture yet is very significant. You don’t like “love” very much, do you? Well. I think this image lacks a lot of contrast, which I think is because of the halo of the lamp. Maybe some postprocessing. Also, I don’t like the colors. But never mind. My color-taste is very strange…

Rafael: Third best IMHO. Very sweet, cute image. I especially love the moon there. Quite good lighting, also I think there are way to many shadows there. I also think the shadows are too sharp.

Enos Shenk: This is shameless… I really like the idea. Unfortunately I don’t like the model of the sperm. Think about using a microscope to get some decent template… But very good interpretation of “Love is in the air”

megamonster: Welcome to the WC. Don’t be angry, but I think your image is just a bunch of thrown together models with strange and very saturated colors. It is somehow cute, but not very much more. I miss somehow a story behind your image. It’s a good start, and I hope you don’t mind my harsh words. Good heart model, btw, which I myself just didn’t master myself till now!

DreamMaster: You really are a master of dreams. This image is very dreamy. It lets you think about a lot of thinks. I can’t quite see the love in this picture. Blue is IMHO to cold for this. But I can see a feeling behind it. Great image.

Sutaby: This more looks like a small devil exploded. Well. Not very much more I can say.

heli: Lustiger Geselle! I think he is to concentrated. You should have worked a little on his expression. And a better background. This is a cool beginning for a great model though! You should think about animating his head!

Jay Eff: Very cool Idea. I wish, you could by such fireworks. Also good interepretation of the theme. Two killers although in this image: Lighting and the models in the front. They are not very simple to read. And I think you should have made them a lot smaller to concentrate the viewer on the fireworks.

Mars: Fine model. I hate the halo, though. Lighting could be a lot better, IMHO. With some specularity and on light from left, above you could get a fine highlight and could kill the halo-effect…

Jack000: Also welcome to WC. IMHO not very much love in your image. But a beautyful image nevertheless. Work on! Participate on!

So, phu, what a work. OK. I hope nobody is angry with me. I tried to be fair. I think most of the images on the WC lack a lot of details. Surely this can be blamed on the timeframe. Also lighting would higher a lot of images from average to quite good.

I am no designer, no 3d mega-artist, or whatsoever. I am a hobby 3d modeller like most of you. I read a lot about the matter and tried myself to create some pictures. I criticise based on what I would have loved to see. I don’t want to lower anybody. Blend on!

Mystery00 : that’s not a full scene

Cyanid : very good idea. However the thumbnail has better appeal than full image where so much is filled with black. Lighten it or add details

Lemmy : I cannot see how it’s related to the topic. Interesting scene as backgroung, definitevly needs something in front

Modron : As usual, cool scene.

Smoky joe : what a weird idea

Rafael : very good image. What kill it a little is that the Lsystems trees does not belong to the same way of drawing than the rest

Enos Shenk : very funny. Could have be given more work

Megamonster : scene not composited. this is very important, you cannot just fill space with various stuff

DreamMaster : too abstract to my taste. Howether rather well done

Sutabi : Not bad, but no emotion in it

I only want to add than in my vision there’s no all pretty. You have freedom but you’re caged. There’s a Light Side and a Dark Side (like The Force), you’re chained but you feel fine. For those things the scene doesn’t needs background nor composition, there is no more and no less.
The soft light and almost insaturate just wants to add and romantic atmosphere.

Just to congratulate the another works, many of them are very beautiful.

Oh, we certainly have our share of ready made meals, but here cooking, when it is for your friends, is considered as normal and waited for. Note that many mens cook too, there is no sexism there.

This picture was not finished and lighting is still the 3 lights modelling setup.

Cyanid- Yours had meaning, but I’m not too fond of sillouettes.

lemmy- I just couldn’t get a feeling from this. Some faeries would look great here.

Usagi- VERY tempting vote! Very high-class. Hope you get plenty of votes!

lukep- I didn’t really like it. Technically good, but not my preference in color use.

Modron- Another tempting vote, but I feel there was too much grainyness.

Smoky Joe- That’s it! I’m calling the cops on you, damn psycho!

Robertt- Let me just summarize this one: If you weren’t the leader, I’d have voted for you.

Rafael- I love it! But there’s something missing from it…

Enos Shenk- Hilarious! If you had toned down the blur, it would’ve gotten a fair amount of votes.

megamonster- I’m pretty impressed with your scene, being a newbie and all…Had you added Wave effects to the water, it would have been glorious. But you get my VOTE anyway.

DreamMaster- Sad, yet warm and gentle…I like it. The reflection could have standed out more, though. Also, the lights are annoying in the balls.

Sutabi- It was a little confusing, but I like it.

heli- An original representation of Cupid.

Jay Eff- Stronger, darker lightning would’ve done wonders.

Mars- I like your explanation. However, the light inside the heart is too powerful.
