“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week.”
Pure entry, Eevee render, compositor effects in 2.90.0 beta. Composition is Rule of Thirds, 3x4 aspect ratio. Yes, that missile started with the Default Cube (the white bit in the center still is). Inspiration: Galaga.
Pure entry 2000 samples. Retro mixed with death row, since those arcades were designed to extract quarters from you while being addictive. Nothing compared to the 20K bill that parents get once in a while these days.
Ah, what a nice Theme, my first thought “Make a flipper”, but taking a look at the needed stuff, the weekend to short to paint or cleanup/stitch photos for it. Maybe i go with a low poly own design.
Open: MakeHuman and Arcade image from the internet.
Had a hard time trying to “color grade” the arcade image and the two makehuman characters and have it all blend together and look good… so… i found a work around… Cartoon Tron it
pure render cycles 512x512 tiles it took about 2 hrs and sprinkle an extra hour of me just sitting there and trying to think what I should improve. The arcade game title is called “Wake to the void”. Which is what sun wukong the monkey kings name means and it is also a game name on gamejolt which was quite fitting. It is also a phrase with quite cool and deep meaning. All in all it took 41 minutes 12 seconds and 42 milliseconds to render! The ghost arcade was meant to be old and dusty so thats why there is some volumetrics and particle dust effects with a touch of depth of field!
Open entry
I’m new here - not sure if this counts as pure or open, so I’ll err on the side of caution. The man is from here. All the other models are my own. Wall, ceiling, and floor textures are from texturehaven, HDRI from HDRIhaven, screen textures are procedural.
Pure
Eevee, this time everything 100% made in Blender.
I used grease pencil to make the swoosh design. Had quite a few issues with it: when converting to curve or mesh, it would only appear as thin black lines. Also couldn’t figure out how to scale thickness on z axis without also scaling on y axis… I wanted it flat… like a drawing, but it is actually quite round. Any tips on how to improve this would be appreciated.
