The rock monkey lives in a giant lake. Time moves very slowly for her so that to everyone else, all the humans on shore, hardly tell that she’s moving at all. Every New Year’s she tries to stay up to hear the people singing Auld Lang Syne, but every year she falls asleep with her mouth just above water. The gods send down a blanket of snow to keep her warm, and the humans start a fire in their little fireplace that they have as part of their island cabin. The house keeps her ears warm and makes her sleep like a baby.
