Changing size of face(s)/ positions of edges without fitting displayed UV texture?

Is there a way to do this in Blender (2.6X) – similar to the way you’d change the size of an image frame in say Indesign, revealing more/less of the image but not fitting it to the new frame size?

The reason I ask is because the other day while modelling it seemed to ‘happen’ to me by accident and I’ve since been struggling to find the key combination for it – to the point of doubting it ever happened.

It would help speeding up some tasks enormously
