Does anyone know how to change the rest position for a model w/an armature? I have my model set up in a way that is not quite right, and I want to change it. I’ve gone pretty far into the project, though–I already have NLA strips and all kinds of other stuff set up. Any ideas? Am I totally missing something? I tried using TAB to edit the bones (as opposed to CTRL-TAB), but that didn’t seem to do anything.
Hmm, I’m probably gonna have to change the mesh and the rigging, aren’t I? Bleh.
I just did a short test and was able to edit the rest pose.
Select Armature
Click ‘rest pose’
hit TAB
selest bones you want to move and adjust them
go out of rest pose and check you movements
Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of. I’m getting around it by creating a one-frame “Rest” action that poses the model as I want it, making it an NLA strip, then setting it to “Add” so that the parts I want to stay put do and the parts that are moved by other strips can do so. It’s a kludge, but it works well enough for now (pretty much the definition of a kludge).
You don’t need to click on Rest Pose to do that, it’s just standard edit mode manipulation of the armature. However, the mesh doesn’t follow, so the new rest pose of the armature will not fit the mesh correctly.
