Hi! I’m looking for a good course on character creation for animation — something that covers the full workflow from modeling to rigging.
I learned rigging using very simple meshes, but now that I’m trying to create more complex characters with hair, clothes, and additional details, I’m running into problems that weren’t covered in the basics.
If anyone can recommend a course, tutorial series, or learning path focused on production-ready characters, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much for your help!
I also applied some tags to help people find your post.
Regarding you question, I don’t have experience with this aspect of Blender. But you might want to have a look on Udemy and watch some previews of courses to see what looks good.
Or, if you want to spend a bit of cash, then: https://www.cgboost.com/courses/master-3d-characters-in-blender looks pretty good. However I don’t have any direct knowledge or experience with the course and it does currently stop before rigging, tho possible they may be added in the future.
I don’t know a good course that would explain both modeling and rigging…
It’s two very different topics so, hard to make something very informative on both subject.
Here are some old tutorials but of pretty good quality :
Blenderella :
Humane Rigging :
On rigging it’s probably not enough to be able to rig the Blenderella character, but it’s very good by showing rigging as a problem solving skills. Rather than providing recipe without explaining the concepts behind it…
I suggest that you focus on one or the other subject first, like you can focus on a character and do quick and dirty rigs with rigify. Then once you’re comfortable with modeling you can study rigging in depth and build your own functional rigs.
Since it’s two very different skills learning both at the same time could be overwhelming…
