Character design: Guenevere (WIP)

First off, apologies if this post contains grammatical errors or misspellings. English is not my native language.

Now that’s out of the way, let me introduce you to a project I’m working. In my spare time, I’ve been working on this charactermodel, which I’ve designed. The character is rigged(sloppy), the hairmesh still has to be rigged. Currently I’m tweeking the materials and the model itself.

The results are okay, as I’m striving for a semi-realistic result. However, I’m not fully satisfied with the materials and the look of the character. Also, the eyes seem off to me, but I’m not sure.

Great work! I never get soo far… I’m too perfectionistic… with kills all projects…
I think that you can improve a lot the hands, and the face. If you can give us some face close-ups from various angles, I’ll try to help you.

Hi Tonatiuh,

Thank you. It is really difficult to get things right. Ussualy i can work a few days on this piece, before I go over to another one. When I revisit my projects, I ussualy have new ideas on how to improve them. But you sometimes get stuck on things when you want them to be perfect.

Today, I managed to make a close up turn around of the face (the renders are low quality). I believe it’s best to start with work on the head, and then other bits

Great! On monday I will make some paint over and iwraps and try to help you.

Well here are some ideas you can use. I recommend you to put my image in gimp or photoshop, on top or yours, and go from one to other to see the changes pop.
And just remember that they are just ideas, based on more realistic human forms.

Update: Thank you Tonatiuh for your excelent feedback. I made some progress on the shape of the head (I think I had the most of your paint over with the buffed cheecks). On the jawline I didn’t do to many. I made some adjustments, but at this point, I like the angle of the jawline.

My advice for a more natural look:

  1. Lower eyes
  2. Raise Lips
  3. Ears need to redo, shape/location all wrong. Or push them in some, hide them with hair.
  4. Add eyelashes, eyebrows need workover look at reference
  5. skin is decent. More darker bump/pores. and also more fine red/brown.light brown noise/imperfections
  6. softer lines around lips, even with lipsstick it’s softer on sides. And you need bump for lips, they cannot be smooth.
  7. neck more slender.

Her breast needs to go up a bit. Right now it looks like it has no support whatsoever.

That was not the original, that was my iwrap version, anyhow, nice advise

@Tonatuih, didn’t realize that was your altered version! Your changes are defintiely heading the right direction, basically more of the same for my ideas. here’s a side by side of my ideas with the true original.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will try to implement most of them. I will check in as soon as possible with the reworked model.

Update: Reworked the ears, eyebrows and eyelashes. The neck will get attention another day. Also, I will trie to find a way to make the hair more smooth on the right side of the head.
