character is always too faded out! help please

hi! I’m new to blender and i LOVE it so far. Problem is my little guy always renders all washed out and faded. I’ve tried all the lights in a zillion different setups and ways. I’ve gone through all the render stuff and been trying to fix this for 3 days now and I’m so frustraited. Below is a screen grab of my setup and render. Any suggestions?? He is a cool little guy but is all washed out and looks crappy on render :frowning: oh looks like the image below is cut off a little heres the url sos you can see my lights too:\

Looks to me like you have the Ambient value in the Shader specs jacked up way too high. Also check the RGB values for your Ambient light in the World settings – it may be too bright as well.

Thanks Chipmasque!! That helped a ton. He’s still crappy but much better. at least you can sorta see him now! lol. hahahahahah I made a little movie with him check it out:

Below is a grab of how he looks after i used your tips. I’ll keep messing with it. Mist in the World section was screwing his lighting up big time too :open_mouth:

Yeah, I though about Mist as well but didn’t see why you’d use it in this scene. But it also would contribute to the faded look.

A suggestion: turn off all the “effects” like Mist while setting up you basic lighting, and work with the lights one at a time to start with, so you can see what the effect of each will be. Then start combining the lights. After you get your base lighting well-established, you can start adding things like Mist. This way, you’ll now what’s doing what as you proceed to a final look.

thanks! yeah i’m going to try that. I guess i didn’t know I had any effects on and it was screwing me up cause i was like, “All these lamps are crap!” but it was all the world stuff screwing me up. Hey you don’t know how to move an objects axis point around do you? it’s like a blue dot in the object. Right now it’s at his neck and I want it at his feet. It’s driving me nuts.

At the risk of sounding rude (as if that’s ever bothered me), this sounds like a job for RTFM.
