Character Meshes: Single vs. Many

[withdrawn]

a lot is preference… having a separate head can make working on morph targets (shapekeys) easier… having parts means you can swap them easily… (when the same character is in different scenes with different clothes…)

having a single mesh can be easier to manage for weighting/skinning and you don’t have to manage modifiers for all the parts… it’s easier to append into scenes too… though if you use groups it’s not much in it really…

Working in games there can be technical restrictions that require a single mesh, but otherwise it’s just down to your preference and how you like to manage your model.

If you sculpt you can achieve higher detail in blender by splitting the model into parts… but then again you can always bake displacements/normal maps for you r final mash anyway…

yes, is a lot of preference, but… you can judge me mad, I have seen a slight speed up and responsiveness in the 3D view, when you join all meshes together and manipulate them via bones rigs…
