Character scultping practice and tricks

Currently practicing more sculpting, if you guys have tips and tricks i would love to hear them, and feed backs always great as I am always working to improve.

I generally design all my character from scratch for this project I know I want a dragon of some kind so I am starting out with a plane and cutting out different shapes as I found this to be very effective for quickly sketching out ideas and moving the them around. love would to hear your guys approach to planning out the shapes of characters.
I am still pretty new as I am mostly self taught and have been using blender for about half a year more or less.

I think this looks okay for the rough shape although i will tweak some shapes in the sculpt like the jaw.

Use reference images, reference images are your best friend when sculpting. and just open an empty scene and try all those sculpting brushes, some are very useful but most of us miss them

Thank you for the advice, I think the crease brush is going to great for adding wrinkles around the eyes and defining the lips!:paintbrush:

I came across this earlier today, and thought it was great. Even though it cuts itself short, there’s still a lot to learn from it.

I recommend finding some references. Something to look at while sculpting to get an idea of the forms of the lizard you’re trying to recreate.

Or try some dinosaurs. You can never go wrong with dinosaurs.

Ah thanks! i looked up lizards however i just got a bunch of ai stuff, got any places for references you recommend!
(thanks these will be super useful!)

Just Google. Doesn’t seem to be a lot out there, but if you get specific, and maybe look up more dinosaurs, you’re bound to find something good eventually.

Thanks, I will try to search for a certain species, that will also make it easier to find proportions as well.:+1:
