Does anyone have any advice on chassis fans that have stopped spinning?
I have 3 chassis fans on the front of the tower. 2 have just stopped working out of the blue.
I recently updated Win 11 and they worked again on the first boot, but then stopped again on the next boot, so it’s not the hardware.
I’ve checked the BIOS and everything is good there. No settings changed.
Depending on the dust filter / etc… and the environment, like are there evil, vile creature around, aka cats… Vacuum dust / etc 1.5-2 weeks or even weekly, just a fast job done is enough if it’s weekly done.
I do it weekly for my ARX 700, but sadly I have yet to do for the 1 bottom intake, since i bought the case (almost 2 months ago)
You can take a picture of the case and we will know what case is it and we can be more helpful too.
Just a quick note about cleaning dust from the fans – if you are using one of those compressed air cans, make sure not to let them spin by blowing the compressed air on them… you can damage your motherboard since, even if your PC is powered off, they can still generate voltages higher than the MB is designed for.
Hehe that’s a great reply from someone with your name
I usually don’t touch fans when cleaning unless I unplug the PWM from the FAN slot1 but generally just blowing the dust after you take off the dust filter or the front/etc is enough
Don’t want to hijack a solved thread, but two things:
That video is 7 years old and he’s testing a CPU fan that’s not connected to the motherboard. He’s not testing case fans, which is what I was referring to.
It may be safe to blow out dust with an air compressor or canned air, but are you willing to take a chance on potentially damaging your MB? Better safe than sorry.
I will try to do a test of chassis FANs this Friday when my oldest brother comes, He does similar stuff and has the tools/devices.
But gonna use a vacuum to suck from one side and see what will I get in 30 seconds.
it seems that when spinning and measuring right on the diode we were getting 0.2V
We didn’t do any other measuring, Since neither of us had more time to spare
