i think a bit less noise, an environment, instead of the white, it takes away a bit, i also think it would be better from the other side, because its the other sides turn, and you can barely tell whos piece is missing, it looks as if its an extra piece

yea, but is it a dif render? i think the lighting was better the first time, im assuming u rendered it in yafray the first time, then blender the second time…
I think this render is really cool…I liked the first one much better. It reminds me of the pixar animation “Geri’s Game”. If you go to pixar.com and check it out…I’m sure you’ll see why 
Its a beautiful short movie, but its really awesome. Anyhow, I love your pieces…I think they came out wonderfully, and the texture for the chess board is very good too. Get rid of the banana and add yourself a table

nice, find a pic on google fo rthe background, and blur it hella, and make the table like wood
