Chicken

Here is my first organic model. It is kinda a chicken but at the same time it is not a chicken. I did the box modeling from a tutorial and the rest my self tweaking, shaping, particles, ect. What do you think?

I think I know the tutorial your talking about. From Silo’s website I think.

As it is your first job, I must say, you have done an nice job. needs eyes, but, that can come later.

Keep at it[/quote]

That chicken needs a haircut!

Good start. Are you going to make it into the shape of a chicken or leave it like a half man, half chicken?

My chicken is not going to be bald!

I think it will stay half and half. I might add some arms. I dont know, what do you think?

I want to animate something so what do you think about the Chicken doing a funky dance?

SirMikey

Here I have added some arms/wings.
Do you think it is better or worse?

It’s a bit difficult to tell, because of the lighting - could you add backlighting and/or light from the right?
Otherwise, I think the arms/wings could do with some variation in size along their length.

Ok hows this? He is starting to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger  I like his look.

A pretty decent start, coming along well. Not really a “finished project” tho, still very WIP.

this is definatly not a finished project, so i think you should post it on works in progress. (how do you make hair?? I have heard you use stactic but i dont know how)

Yeah I guess I should put it in the WIP section. It is becoming more and more a WIP.

I used particles for the hair.

SirMikey

You could have him doing the “Chicken dance.” :stuck_out_tongue: Shouldn’t the arms have hair too?

Nahh, I dont want hairs on the arm. I like it kinda half man half chicken. One of the reasons I dont want hari on the arms is b/c I want to animate him and that will slow down the animation process a lot.

SirMikey

I don’t think it would slow the render down more than the hair on the body.

I’ve a got a way to make the chicken look a bit more “fully”

Ok, using your particle emitter, you go to the Map Input setting and click on strands. Then in the Map To setting, enable Alpha.

Add a blend texture and make it go from. . . I don’t know, yellow to black, using the colour band with yellow as cursor 1 and black (0% alpha) as cursor 2.

Then go back to the F5 menu and ontop of the RGB slider, there should be the “strand” button. Click on the strand button and set the Start value 12, End value 1 and Shape = -0.9 (negative 0.9 because that’ll give the spikey look). Also make sure you drag the Alpha slider of the material to 0, and disable the Col button in the Map To panel.

If everything went well, you should get this kind of hair:

Scuse my poor lighting, I’m not too good with lighting. With good lighting, the fur will definately look conspicous I tell ya

Here’s my settings for this fur thing:

Wolf

Hey thanks Wolf! That looks awesome. I am going to try it out as soon as I get the chance.

I am putting this in the WIP section since it still needs lots of work.

SirMikey

it looked good before to added those wings
