Hello,
I’m trying to wrap my head around how the chroma keying node in the compositor works.
A super simple set up like below is intuitive and makes sense to me. Just pick your colour and you’re good to go.
My confusion begins with using render layers. Below I’ve got some white noise on a black background. If I plug render layer Image output into the Keying image input and set the key colour to black, nothing outputs to the viewer. I have to plug the image into the core matte input for the keying to work. Why?
Final bonus question: Say I want to key out the background a render layer that contains something black and partially transparent, how do I do that? I tried the below setup which renders the image as white then inverts the colour but the transparency renders … wrong. Like it’s got some of the original white in it. What’s going on here and how would I set it up so the transparency renders correctly?
Thanks in advance for any help understanding this all a bit better!
