City Apartment Archviz

The final render. Cycles 4096 samples and OpenImageDenoise.

Project background
This project was the victim of big scope creep. Originally it was supposed to be just the Friheten sofa from IKEA but I thought that it would be cool to put it in a full archviz scene… Well, next thing I know I’m doing everything from making the paintings on a wall and simulating a rug. Five days later I ended up with a project that was the biggest one I have made since the projects I made for the military a few years ago. My poor GTX 1060 was not happy with me.
Scene statistics

What did I learn?
Lots. I had not simulated pillows before so that was lots of fun and Blender Guru’s tutorials were of great help. Making the epoxy material for the table was quite hard and I didn’t find any help online. It didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted but it’s good enough for now. I also had never made 2D low poly paintings so those were also something I learned. I need to find a better workflow for them but will definitely keep making them.

What the table looks like from above.

This is the node setup I used for the epoxy.

These were the paintings on the wall.

Original idea
Since this was originally supposed to be just a sofa render here is what this project would have been if I didn’t expand it into this full archviz scene.

Who made what
I made everything for the project by myself except textures and the visible city from the window. The city is from Pixabay and most of the textures are from AmbientCG.

Final thoughts
I got lots of great feedback from friends and 3D-themed discords and this would not have turned out as well as it did without them. After looking at the project for 5 days it’s nice to have fresh pair of eyes looking at it. I’m a perfectionist and never happy with these projects but I have to admit that this is one of my favorite projects by far.
