Ciúin Buile - Xangtan male

Far into the future, in a galaxy closer than you think…

The universe had reached a state of relative calm. For a time, law enforcement officers became lax about their duties. Trade-route pirates became relatively scarce, having opted for sponsored crystal mining on the Outer Rim. They could make as much in a profitable day of harvesting than they did in a week of piracy, and the risks were far less. The Outer Rim became a sort of Earth Australia as it began; a respectable haven for outlaws and criminals to turn over a new leaf in life.

The peace was in part due to the patrolling efforts of a breed of Xangtan from a remote galaxy, rarely marked on any map. They were excellent navigators, due to an abnormally large left cranium, which gave them unparalleled logic and quick thinking. They flew the galaxies at random in pursuit of the extinction of evil, and after such a quest would be completed and the criminal banished to the Outer Rim, local people somewhat affectionately referred to the unofficial denizens of the law as “Knights.”

The Knights also possessed great strength in their stocky bodies. Their extreme brain capacity allowed them to work smart, not hard, but their muscle gave them an edge when it came to blows. More than one Xangtan had worked his way out of a tense death situation through brute force alone. Technology advancements allowed them to assist their natural eye and ear faculties through mechanical implants.

But as the pirates realized that the galactic police were sleeping on their jobs, they began to lust again for the heat of battle, and they began returning to their ships. The Xangtan honed their weapons, ready to continue their destined work…

This is a model of a male Xangtan, Ciúin Buile (Silent Fury), often known simply as Buile (BWIL-e). Like most Xangtan, his body developed rapidly as a youngster and it was well known that Buile was one of the strongest young warriors to ever fly the pirate sectors. Brave sometimes to the point of rashness, Buile did not wear body armor for the majority of his adventures, preferring to trust in his electronically-augmented sight and hearing to keep his hide in one piece. All Xangtan wear close-fitting helmets of sorts which provide this technology.

(I would like to note for the benefit of all that this is NOT a character inspired by any movie you can think of. I am attempting to go completely original here. Any similaries to people or characters of fact or fantasy, living or dead, is completely coincidental.)

04.21: Helmet complete.
04.22: Neck complete.
04.23: Trunk complete.

The Xangtan anatomy is somewhat similar to the common pattern found throughout the galaxies of an upright body, head topmost, with four or more limbs. The Xangtans are a short, stocky race - if the Human sport of rugby ever reaches the Xangtan sector, it would be an instant favorite.

Mouth/nose missing yet.

Xangtan facial expression is limited, due to the absence of a human-like mouth or nose. The Xangtans have only a single trunklike snout, which serves for both eating, breathing and vocal purposes. As such, their speech is guttural - mostly noises and sounds. Some of the very old warriors have mastered some rudimentary speech, but this is rare. As such, those Xangtans are highly respected.

Their snout is short and stubby, highly muscular. The Xangtans are mostly fruit and roughage eaters, relieving them of any necessity for sharp teeth. Instead, a round bony structure similar in shape to a horseshoe is embedded in the mouth cavity behind the trunk, which grinds the food before it is passed to the digestive system. To ensure that they do not suffocate while eating, the Xangtans are capable of holding their breath for up to a minute. The tip of the trunk is quite versatile, allowing the Xangtans to form many sounds with it which they would not otherwise be able to make.

No time to write backstory today.

Unwrapping this creature is going to be a beast.

Hello!

interesting story! (how many story tellers wander in Elysiun?)
However, Hélas! I cannot see the pictures! somthing wrong with the server?
Or is it my proxy? (all other pictures in elysiun come by without trouble)

Dani

I’m inclined to think it’s a problem on your end. I don’t have any trouble (and judging by the 280 views and no other complaints, I don’t think anybody else does either! ).

I’ve enabled indexing on the xangtan server directory. Maybe that helps?

Thanks for the nice words.

Hey, now it works! :]

Yeah, I’ve noticed that many people in the Blender world like story telling, specially lately.

Hey, I was not expecting such a caracter
The “Xangtan male” title and their “acts of war” made me think of something a bit more… /me thinks… traditionnal, muscular man etc…

But, here you surprised me completely! continue please!

Dani

I’ve been co-running a garage sale since Wednesday, so I haven’t had any time to work on this since then. On Monday & Tuesday I did get some work done, so lest you think I’ve abandoned this I’ll post my current status.

Basic roughout of the arms. Still a lot of work to do. The band at the end of the arm is a metal bracelet; it may eventually have some subtle electronics embedded in it. I’ve done a really detailed sketch of the hands, so once I get the arms done I should be able to turn out a pretty decent grabber.

Also note a new shader & light setup.
