civilized discussion of graphical novels and movies related

I myself like graphical novels, like Alan Moore’s and Eddie Campbells “From Hell”, or Hugo Pratss wonderfull “Corto Maltese” series.

I have noticed, to my delight, that these graphical novels have begun to gather the status they deserve, seeming that many of these sell vey well and even win higly regarded prizes.

Now somone might ask why am I rambling on like this, but I actually got the flame to write this, because today I saw this very promsing first episode of Hugo Pratts “Corto Maltese” animated series and begun to think: What do other people think of this.

On subject to bonder could be should comics be turned into animated films or acted ones. Or what do you think of the movie version released from them.

I hope there would be even some along you, who would like to enter this discussion, but feel no pressure from my account.

Anyone seen “Snow falling on cedar”

I have not seen this one, but pray tell, what is this one all about?

And also take a look at “Clockwork Orange”

My favorite graphic novel currently, is ‘Megalex’, which is being featured in the new magazine ‘Metal Hurlant’. It’s a bit like Heavy Metal was before it turned to crap. Also, I have been collecting ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’ from issue 1, which is quite good, and has now been made into a movie.

A civilized discussion? Were you expecting a fight to break out over which X-man is more powerful?

To get back on topic… I collected a few issues of “The Punisher” and “The Uncanny X-Men” but that was a long time ago. Its been a long time since I looked at a comic bo…er…graphic novel.

Obviously the Pheonix is the most powerful of all x-men. :Z

But Wolverine’s clearly the best.

Precicely.

What comes on X-men I think Wolverine is my favorite, tough last time I read marvel comics I was 13. What comes to Marvel movies, well, all of them are adequate at best. Nothing really specail in any of them. Not even Ian Mckellan.

But I do collet Conan comics, eventough 90% of evet published Conan comic has the same plot which goes: Conan hears plea of help. Conan sees girl. Conan sees bad guy harassing girl. Conan kills bad guys. Girl turns into a demona and Conan kills the deamon. the end.

But this does not close out the fact, that Conan the Barbarian is one of the greatest movies ever made.

I’ve been going through the Sandman series by Gaiman after reading his book American Gods. Sorry, too lazy to figure out whether to underline or italicize the quotes, I’ll blame it on my faulty schooling ;). The books are really really good, much inline with the manifestation of the gods in AG. give them a look. Super cool plot and art as well.

Also been grabbing up older Spawns off Ebay, just for kicks.

I haven’t read “American Gods” yet, but I have ordered it. It has not arrived yet. Neil Gaiman is one of the best comic writers there is. Anyone read “Neverwhere”?

Sandman one of the firts comics targeted to adults that was a success. Bryan Talbots Luther Arkwright was the first. Great comic, plot needs concentration, but is forth it. I recomend.

A-BOMB rules and by the way, I’m insulted when people use the word civialize.

o…k Al…

at least you’ll be free to discuss movies without CubeFan going NATO at every comment…

No I mean it, I believe the word civialize is a false definition that makes act of hostility acceptable or unacceptable to the vast majority.

ok, but lets stop hijacking this thread, maybe start a new one?

Anyone seen A-BOMB ?

Al, you said somewhere n the beginnign about “Clockwork Orange”, which is one of my favorite movies btw. Strange movie in it’s way, that it never looks as old as it is. Alex is unique main character, because I can’t actually recall any other movie, which has a character, that is “evil” and chaotic and gets away with it.
I’ve never read the book version tough.

AS for the A-BOMB I have not seen it nor the real life version of it.

I think the moral of clockwork orange is forcing someone to be good and lawfull is more harm then good, I think it’s a movie that everyone should see, regardless of all the sex and violence. A-BOMB is adult MANGA

i think that Clokcwork is about freewill: If you force individual to think as people in charge think that everyone thinks you become a clockwork, non thinking or feeling thing.
Everyone has their right to act as they please, even if their acts would be unaccectable by every moral code. That is what makes us humans.

Try telling that to conservitives %|
