Claw machine

I saw an illustration of this claw machine on Pinterest and it amused me enough to make me want to recreate it in 3d.

This Chateau Figeac is just waiting to be picked up!
How hard could it be?

I did a rigid body simulation for the pile of bottles:

Then, for the level of wine in the bottles, I painfully used Boolean modifiers:

I hope you found it amusing too.
Cheers! :wine_glass:

Those bottles look slippery.

Don’t tell me you suspect a scam :grimacing:

I love this so much, shaders and model look great, labels also look so good, Maybe throw in a Chateau Petrus just for fun  You really improved on the original concept, great image!

I’ve added a Petrus 2013 :face_with_monocle:
Good luck!

hahaha now that´s an expensive claw machine, nice work on the booleans for the wine level too, nice detail! I always hesitate about using booleans as they are a bit janky in blender, did you have any problems with them?

I used 2 levels of subd for the bottle and the wine is obviously a copy of the inside of this geometry. However, I’ve applied 1 level of subdivision to have a fairly dense mesh and to be able to cut with the boolean without any problem.
And even if there were shading artefacts, I don’t think you’d see it behind the glass :see_no_evil:

Nice! thanks for the insights! I´m working on a bottle now (tequila not wine) but I was curious about how to approach the liquid  Btw thanks for the rickroll :joy:

The boolean works well enough here because you can hardly see the liquid and the volumes can have quite complex shapes.
If you’re doing a pack shot style image with a more transparent glass that clearly shows the liquid, you should probably work a bit harder. The liquid rises slightly on contact with the glass, unlike my simplified version.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

That is funny. If I saw that machine I’d be tempted to give it a try even though it’s probably impossible…

One button and a joystick. It has to be simple :smiling_imp:
