Clothes for Makehuman model?

What is the best way to make clothes for a human made in Makehuman?? Are there any good tutorials on that??

Thanks!!

Or any human models

Quick and dirty way to do it is to paint the cloth on the body. You will need UV setup for that though.

If you want clothing as a different mesh, just duplicate body mesh; scale them up slightly to fit over the body. Shape clothing ends to make them look right.

Also to build clothing from scratch, one use Shrinkwrap modifier. Just build the mesh around the body and use the modifier to locate them next to the skin.

Thank you!!

getting into this myself (not via makehuman, just modelling). when you do clothing for posing/animation, say a skirt, do you generally just model the outside, as it were, or do you give the skirt thickness?

Probably the easiest thing to do in terms of thickness, is to add a solidify modifier after the cloth sim.

I usually do this:

  1. Model a low poly piece of clothing, not worrying much about snugness or shape, just get decent but simple topology. I don’t duplicate the human mesh and scale it up, why? Because the topology of a shirt is not the same as that of a human, it’s simpler.
  2. Add a subsurf 2 on the clothing.
  3. Create a vertex group for the parts which will hug the body, be form fitted.
  4. Add a shrinkwrap modifer, using the human as the object and the formfit vertex group as, well, the vertex group.
  5. Adjust offset and verts a little so no skin is showing. (Not a bad idea to duplicate the clothing here)
  6. Apply the subsurf, apply the shrinkwrap.
  7. Add a cloth sim to the clothing, add colision to the human.
  8. Weight paint the clothing on a stiffness vertex group, red is parts that won’t flap around
  9. Add stiffness scaling to the cloth sim, ~5 - 10 for both.
  10. Add a solidify modifer after the cloth sim in the stack.
  11. keyframe some movement on the human.
  12. Bake the cloth sim, take a look, tweak the parameters, repeat.

thanks for that step-by-step
