Quick test for a sci-fi ice planet. Plan to use this for a short film I am working on over the next few months and wanted to test how it would look with simple sompositing done.
Made in Blender 2.74 RC2 and rendered with cycles. Some post processing done in Photoshop for the atmosphere. The nebula are smoke sim renders and the star field is made in photoshop using photos of fireworks from CgTextures.com
Finished the muscle rig for my gorilla character (atleast for now may need some tweaking in future). Put it into a lot of test poses and they all seem to hold up nicely.
I recently saw this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtAFrJk4XlE and was inspired to create my own retrospective video. I am missing a lot of my first projects from 2009 so it is missing some my even worse projects.
It is pretty cool to see your projects chronologically and watch your progression.
You’ve improved a lot over 6 years! Seeing the video you linked and then yours was really cool. I’ve always been in the mentality of showing only my good stuff and hiding my old/bad stuff. It never occurred to me to actually showcase my progress like that.
Update on the gorilla character and the muscle system. Getting very close to have a final system. I have the binding complete just need to tweak some parts of the rig to be more accurate. Mainly in the scapular/deltoid area.
Over the weekend I started to clear some space on my harddrives when I found a lot of recorded video for timelapses that I never got around to putting together. So I edited them together and I will be uploading them to my youtube page over the next few weeks.
Here is the first one. Is is a TF2 Hat that I made and submitted to the Steam Workshop. Never heard back if it got accepted or declined but it was a fun exercise in creating a low poly game asset. Something that I don’t have a ton of experience with as I usually do more high poly work.
Over the weekend I retextured some older projects. Before they were mostly just basic shaders. I often neglect my texturing so I am trying to get some practice.
Rendered an animation of my planet with clouds that I made in photoshop. The clouds were animated in after effects with distortion effects. Then exported and used as an image sequence in blender. Next I am going to try and do the clouds entirely in After Effects and export them to blender so that I can get the effect of the clouds changing density as they move. Right now they are solid and don’t change in shape except for the spinning of the hurricane.
I am starting a challenge for myself to work on 1 project each week and post my results at the end of the week,
Week #1 Render
Status: WIP
I lost a bit of work time on this because of my nephews birthday taking up my Saturday. As such the render for this week lacks some detail and polish. I didn’t get to detailing or texturing the eye outside of the iris. The trees lack detail when rendered full size and need to be redone. The skin needs texturing.
I plan to continue working on this maybe another week of polish and it I will consider it done. But for this week I want to work on something else. I was planning to enter into the Weekly CG Challenge on facebook for the Gunslinger challenge, but I have ideas for other projects.
1 - Model a wolf something I have wanted to do for awhile now
2 - Model either the Lich Kings helmet or sword from world of warcraft for 3d printing
3 - Model/Sculpt a high detail skeleton this is something I need to do for a long standing project
Leaning towards the skeleton as I have not made much progress on the bigger project and it has been a road block. And I haven’t sculpted in awhile.
Decided to work on the skeleton. Got the base model done and started on some sculpting. Didn’t get as far as I wanted but it is a good start. I may continue this project and finish the sculpting in the next week.
