I am currently looking for colleges and I am hoping to go into game programming and game graphics. I have been working on a RPG engine in JAVA for a while now, and it is almost complete. In my search for colleges, I of course came across Digipen, but after looking at the demo videos of games, I realized that I am almost at that level, if not past it. I want a college to further my knowledge, not simply tell me that I know what I know. If anybody has good colleges for what I am looking for, please let me know. Any information would be greatly apprieciated.
going to an art-oriented college isn’t nececescay to get a good position in the game industry. If your skills exist the entry standards are more than achievable. I think you’d be better off getting a degree somewhere cheaper and working on a portfolio, and joining forums like cgtalk [and frequenting them with new good work]
but then again, I haven’t taken my oppurtunties to join the game industry [and I wouldn’t be doing art], most of what I’m blathering has either come from people hiring at siggraph presentations or from my friend who interned doing art for the next call of duty title.
probably the best way to get into the industry is doing internships and work experience and proving your skills while your there, if need be say you’ll work for free for a few weeks work experience, they’ll be inclined to take you on because it’ll look good for their profile and they’ll get an extra pair of hands at no extra cost, also i would recommend going to college even if you feel you’re already at that standard, because it’ll look good on your CV and it’ll give you the opportunity to get even better
