collision object question

I’m doing an animation in cycles that has particles and I am using a group of objects for the particles. I also have a large cylinder that I am using a collision object. The particles will bump against the inside wall of this cylinder and be contained with in it.

But my question is this… I do not want the cylinder to appear in anyway in the render or change the lighting/shadows of the other objects. I guess there are 3 options

  1. uncheck the render camera icon in the outliner - Not sure if the collision object will still do what it is supposed to.

  2. Move the collision object to a different layer… and not render that layer… but I think the particles and the collision object should be probably on the same layer

  3. Mess around with Ray Visablity of the cylinder

What is the best method to use ?

One is the most efficient - it won’t affect the simulation. You could also bake the particles, which will save their motion. Then you could delete/move the cylinder to another layer.

Thanks Sam, I’m just about to do an overnight render of the animation, so I just wanted to make sure… if your interested click on the one arm bandit WIP in my signature sometime tomorrow afternoon and I should have the test animation posted. Thanks again
