collisions and other animation questions

I have a couple questions about animation:

  1. is it possible to make an object follow a specific path in an animation?

  2. is it possible to have an object realistically rest on or fall onto another object without manually figuring out the coordinates/rotation?

  1. It is possible. You would use a path (bezier curve) and a follow path constraint.

  2. Yes, this is also possible, but it’s more of a physics simulation than an animation. Check out the Physics tab and take a look at Rigid Body and Collision.

A search should find many tutorials on how these are done.
