Colonial frigate

Update on the missile pod. The first shot is the rear of the pod where the missiles are loaded.

I made a normal map and texture for the rail guns, not great but it looks alright from a distance. Also added the running lights, I’ve been trying to get them to glow more but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Haha! I am glad you asked! Here is the tutorial I made on how to achieve glow: http://vimeo.com/13322805
However use this way of combining it with the rest of the scene: http://vimeo.com/13508778

btw now it looks better with stuff on the array thing.

Thanks DDD I watched the first one it’s very good. I’m going to watch the second one tonight and then I will give it a try. I will post the results when it’s done.

I am glad you liked it (sorry about the length, 'twas my first one and like the 6th try lol)

Good luck!

I did a render of the frigate next to the George Washington just to give a size reference.

Hey DDD I followed you tutorial and it came out great. I used the first tut and I did have some problems when the lights were farther away so I made the changes from the second video and it worked perfectly. This will be an even bigger help when I do the interior shots, I had done some tests awhile back on a interior scene and the lighting wasn’t very convincing so I will do some more tests using the glow effect.
Thanks again and here is a render of the frigate with the new lights.

Glows are looking good! Glad the tutorials where helpfull

I used the glow node to create engine glow. I need to make some adjustments but it looks ok for now. If your interested in what a real VASIMR engine burn looks like check out this test of the real thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIg6pWwezEU
I think I’m done with this for now.
I should be starting a new thread today for a drop ship/utility craft.
