Color Weirdness/Double Faces

I’ve been working on this for a while, and when I hit render, I noticed some ‘checkers’ on the model. I paid no heed. However, now I have my image/UV, and the problem is still there.

I discovered that somehow, my model has two faces for each face. Problem is, I have no idea how to go about fixing this.

Sounds like you just have duplicated your mesh. You need to delete the extra set of vertices. In Edit Mode, hit A to select all, then W>Remove Doubles.
