colorRamp node kills alpha

In playing around with the nodes on a particle system, I found a cool effect using the colorRamp node, but it kills my alpha channel. Is there a way around that?


Set the alpha level in the ColorRamp node (the A: numeric input box).

it looks great in the node editor window, but when rendered I get empty frames.
