Hi, I am trying to put two colours on the inside & outside of a bowl, but when I try to click on the faces on the inside I must always hit on an outside one as well beacause I end up with the bowl having rings of different colours round it.
It seems to happen whenI zoom in & move the bowl that two faces must met & I click them causing the ring effect.
Could anyone please help me out with a way that it is easier to see if I click on the wrong face.
Thanks Mac
I don’t know if English is your native tongue or not but try reading what you wrote. That makes no sense at all.
Hi, It is my native tounge but I will have another go.
I want a bowl to have two colours Inside & out . When I try to put the inside colour onto the bowl I use Face selection mode.
But I find that when I assign the colour I have a hooped effect, so I think I must have hit two faces instead of one.
I find it hard to make out the right face to select as they seem to merge together at some points & I must have inadvertantly clicked on an outside face, and that is where I think I get the hooped effect from.
Is there an easier way of getting a colour on the inside of the bowl.
Thanks Mac
hoppla Mac62!
Difficult to really understand what you mean. I have a few suggestions it may help you.
-
You are in editmode.
-
Use multiple materials: Do not use the material drop down to switch between colors, use the box that looks like [< 1 mat 2 >] below.
-
To select the inside of a bowl I usually pick the center vertex and use Ctrl-+ to expand my selection.
-
Holding the Bkey down too long triggers an area select mode. (you will see a ring around the cursor). This one is resized by using the wheel on your mouse.
-
On the left of “mode” drop down box (thats showing edit mode, object mode etc…) you have the “viewport shading” drop down. This one should be set to solid , not Wireframe. Otherwise you hit both back and front of your mesh.
You might have to give your bowl some thickness. It sounds as if your inside face and your outside face are in the same spot. Post an image of the problem, you’ll get more focused advice.
Hi, Thanks for the help, here is what it looks like . Thanks Mac
Post the .blend:
Here’s a brief look at some selection tools that might help
Notice the two options: draw mode is in solid mode, and the box for “limit selection to visible” is checked. This will prevent selection bleed through that you seem to be getting. I tilted the bowl (half a UV sphere, extruded and scaled in) by using the Numpad keys 2,8,4 and 6.
I’ve selected a single vertex at the bottom of the bowl
Then I press Ctrl+NumPadPlus six times, and the selection is expanded to the entire interior of the bowl.
Another selection option is Alt+RMB, which selects the edge loop nearest the cursor. In this case I selected an exterior loop near the bottom of the bowl.
Another three applications of Ctrl+NumPadPlus and the outside of the bowl is selected.
Some Meta advice: check out the menus. There’s a selection menu in the header of the 3D view window, which has these tools and more. Try them out, see what they do.
Thanks for the help, I’ve been in hospital for a few days so I have had no chance of answering your suggestions. I will have a go in the next couple of days. Thanks Mac
